Biggest problem with being Polyfidelious?

I'd love to have an event in Brisbane, like a bbq in a public park or something where poly people can just get together and chat and meet each other. My partner is looking to start a relationship with someone to hopefully lead to having kids with some day and of course that's so much harder when we are always around monogamous people. Are there others in Brisbane who wouldn't mind a social get together to meet and chat?

There is a group in Brisbane that may interest you and I know they have social events and such. I have had no experience with them so can't say how inclusive as a group they are, but would be worth a look.
Latest details I have are:-

Second Sunday of every month - Boundary Hotel - West End
3pm Social Afternoon, with a theme presentation or discussion about 4pm. Open for all poly folk and the poly-friendly and poly-curious.

Thanks. I do know about that one and they are lovely people but I was looking for anything else going on too. There is a bit of generational gap between us and most members of that group I think. If anyone hears of other stuff going on in Brisbane please let me know!

Yes - the generational gap can be an issue - perhaps you could start a group on the site for Brisbane and nearby people and see what happens? If you get enough interest perhaps you could start your own group, we have a couple of committee members here who could help with that.

I know it sounds daunting but I guess the old adage stands "you don't know unless you give it a go" :)

If you want to have social events, the biggest problem is the legal angle. Poly events are specifically about dating, so incidents have occurred in Victoria where the police got involved. Guess what: the organisation holding the event was drawn into the mess. So it is very important that you choose an organisational structure that limits legal liability. In the State of Victoria, that has meant incorporation. It's probably the same in Queensland. Our brief at PoyFi/PolyOz is to help you with this type of problem. Having a poly event is not like having a party at a private house.

Having said that, it is great that you have come out and put the issue on the table. PolyFi/PolyOz offer a great deal of privacy compared to other forums. Feel free to create a Brisbane group on the site. There is already a Tassie group, so it's not as if this is anything new.

So far as the generation gap issue is concerned, the history of poly in Victoria is people getting involved in the main group (PolyVic) and this has spawned various other splinter groups who go off and do their own thing. The benefit of this is that you don't have to worry about legal liability and structure until you have enough momentum to form your own group. :)

Meanwhile, remember that we are here to help you, where ever you might be in Australia. You are not alone. Keep talking and get your friends to throw in their two bob's worth.
